Google launches its compilation of press information in Switzerland on Tuesday. Through the Google News Showcase licensing program, the Californian internet giant will showcase articles from publishers CH Media (which publishes watson), NZZ, Ringier, Somedia, Tamedia and the 20 Minutes group, the latter two representing units of TX Group.
Named Google News Showcase, the platform allows participating publishers to address their readers through a selection of editorial content on Google News and Discover, Google said on Tuesday.
In practice, participating publishers select news articles to attract the attention of Internet users, with a view to then redirecting them to the full articles on their online news sites.
Access to articles reserved for subscribers
As part of the collaboration, Google pays the publications so that readers are able to access the content, even if it is reserved for subscribers of the titles concerned.
Internationally, Google has signed News Showcase contracts with more than 2,800 publications. With its launch in Switzerland, the product is available in 31 countries.

“Stalking”, or harassment, must appear in the Swiss penal code as a specific offense. The Council of States took up the matter on Monday, by 32 votes to 7, on a project in this direction. The Federal Council is also in favor of it.
“Stalking” causes psychological, physical and economic damage, noted for the commission Céline Vara (Vert-es/NE). The phenomenon has grown in recent years, particularly because of social networks. Children, adolescents, but also women see their lives “rotting”, according to the Neuchâteloise.
