Nanterre-la-Folie station, designed by Arcadis, is full of travelers

Since December 15, -la-Folie station has seen the number of its users increase with a complete RER E transport offer, all day, weekdays and weekends.

Arcadis, international engineering and consulting companyis pleased to have reached this new stage of the RER E extension project to the west, which is accompanied by a ramp-up of the new western terminus of the line, the Nanterre-la-Folie station, an infrastructure including she carried out the design and construction, alongside Explorations Architecture, on behalf of SNCF Réseau.

The Nanterre-la-Folie station, commissioned in May with a partial offer of trains at adjusted timetables on the new section of the RER E between Nanterre-la-Folie and Haussmann Saint-Lazare, has been welcoming since Sunday 15 December 16 trains per hour during peak hours (i.e. 1 train every 4 minutes) and 10 trains per hour during off-peak hours (i.e. 1 train every 6 minutes). Furthermore, all RER E trains from the east are extended to the Nanterre-la-Folie terminus, thus connecting the line from east to west.

As prime contractor alongside Explorations Architecture, Arcadis has created an infrastructure of very high architectural and urban quality. The design of the station’s constituent works stems from this ambition, with the choice made to limit materials and give pride of place to metal. Imagined as an extension of urban space, the Nanterre-la-Folie air station is widely open to the city and in particular to the profoundly changing Groues district. It offers fluid access to the 4 platforms and 6 lanes thanks to a monumental entrance, a vast porch 18 m wide and 8 m high standing out from the real estate complex of the Vinci group headquarters, and a 12 m wide footbridge distributing platforms via fixed staircases, elevators and escalators. The principle of installing passenger information and operating equipment in the station allows adaptation to future needs, while limiting the creation of obstacles on the platforms, thus facilitating passenger movement within the station.

“The Nanterre-la-Folie station stands out for its architecture and its harmonious integration into the Groues district, positively shaping the area. This result was obtained thanks to the commitment of the Arcadis and Explorations-Architecture teams, mobilized throughout 10 years of studies and work, who developed technical solutions making it possible to serve an ambitious architectural purpose, which is well reflected the catenary protection canopies of the footbridge or the architectural catenary posts, unique works designed specifically for the station. But beyond urban renewal, we are particularly proud to participate in a project promoting ever more ecological mobility in Île-de- and significantly reducing travel times for Ile-de-France residents. », declares Mikaël Beck, major projects director at Arcadis.

The Nanterre-la-Folie station constitutes one of the essential links in the major Eole mobility project, supported by SNCF Réseau, aimed at extending the RER E west by 55 km to Mantes-La-Jolie.
