Recently, a flagship environmental project was launched in the Meudon national forestin the municipality of Clamart. Led by the City, the National Forestry Office (NFB) and the manager of network RTEthis reforestation program was born from the disappearance of 31 electricity pylons and of 14 kilometers of very high voltage lines buried from 2022.
Children plant diverse and honey-producing species
As early as 2014, Jean-Didier Berger, deputy mayor of Clamart, made burying very high voltage lines a priority. “The very high voltage lines constituted a real scar in the Clamart landscape. Thanks to their burial, more than six hectares of forest will be found. It is an immense joy to see nature reclaiming its rights, with the contribution of children.” he said.
The metamorphosis of the site is part of a logic environmental et educational. As part of the program A tree/a child, 623 CM1 students are mobilized to plant diversified and honey-producing species. This project, entirely financed by RTEextends until mid-December. In addition to reforesting the site, the project includes actions to awareness of the environment and biodiversity in the classroom and on the field. “The Meudon national forest is a natural treasure that we must cherish and protect. By planting these trees, we are not only making a gesture for today, but we are investing in the future“, stressed Auswald Martin, territorial manager of the ONF.
Reconciling technical innovation and ecological ambition
The landfill project, started in 2017, was completed two years ahead of schedule. This feat, made possible thanks to the device Local Initiative Undergrounding (MESIL), by permission of “reconciling technical innovation and ecological ambition“. Nathalie Lemaitre, regional delegate of RTE, recalled the scale of this transformation: “Although it is no longer visible, our high voltage electricity network is still there, underground. It continues to supply 800,000 inhabitants of the south-west of Paris“.
By removing invasive visual infrastructures, the City of Clamart and its partners are reinventing a natural space for the benefit of inhabitants and biodiversity. The six reforested hectares will enrich the ecosystem of the Meudon national forest, while providing a setting where fauna and flora can thrive. “This reforestation project is a concrete example of what we can achieve when we join forces and efforts. It reminds us that protecting our environment is a collective responsibility“, a conclu Auswald Martin.
