The Swiss team definitely cannot do it at home. Patrick Fischer’s squad lost 2-0 against the Czech Republic in Fribourg, their 10th consecutive defeat at home in the Euro Hockey Tour.
As is often the case during the season, when the Swiss do not have NHL players available, they lacked the necessary composure in front of the goals. In the final phase of the middle period, the hosts kept the puck in their attacking zone for a long time, they tired the Czechs, but without finding the opening.
It was different for the Czechs when they pinned the Swiss in their defensive zone midway through the first period. The Davosians Filip Zadina, who scored the 1-0 after a rebound from Ludovic Waeber (12th), and Matej Stransky, for the 2-0 21 seconds before the first break, were the scorers.
Malgin et Andrighetto en vue
When the Swiss were dangerous, it was usually the line of Denis Malgin, Sven Andrighetto and Fabrice Herzog that was on the ice, such as during the pressure phase at the end of the middle third. Grégory Hofmann (35th) and Thierry Bader (43rd) also missed great opportunities in front of 6,412 spectators.
The locals also tried everything in the last third, but they failed to score against the Czechs, as they had already done in May in the World Cup final (2-0). There is therefore still a chance for the Swiss to put an end to the curse of home. Their last opponent will be Finland on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., who beat Sweden 3-0.
