Six people received the medal of honor regional, departmental and municipal, in Ménil-de-Briouze (Orne), on Friday November 29, 2024.

This distinction, received in the name of the Minister of the Interior, rewards services rendered to the municipality as well as theseniority within the municipal council.

Six medals awarded

In total, five silver medals and one silver-gilt medal were assigned. Among the recipients of the silver medal, we find Fabrice Hébert, Monique Hée, Gilles David and Gérard Thomas.

All elected in 2001, they celebrated 23 years dedication to the service of the community. Gérard Thomas was also an assistant for 17 years. Éric Thommerel, for his part, was a key player in the municipal council for 28 years, including 22 as deputy.

The vermeil medal was awarded to the former mayor, Daniel Duval, in recognition of his 43 years of service. Joining the municipal council in 1977, he held various positions, including that of mayor for 21 years, before handing over to Jean-Marie Delange in 2020.

Guests to present the awards

The ceremony was marked by the presence ofelected who came to present the medals: the deputy Jérôme Nury, the senator Olivier Bitz, the president of Flers Agglo Yves Goasdoué, as well as the departmental councilors Marie-Françoise Frouel and Alain Lange were there.

Jean-Marie Delange, the current mayor, opened the ceremony with a speech highlighting dedication and commitment of his advisors, without whom he could not carry out his projects. He highlighted the tenacity, energy and diligence necessary to serve the community.

The councilor underlines that the contribution of Gilles David was essential to the land management of the municipality, highlighting the importance of the varied skills of each person.

Daniel Duval: 43 years of service

Senator Olivier Bitz expressed his honor of presenting the vermeil medal to Daniel Duval, highlighting his role in the shaping of the territory.

Daniel Duval, moved, thanked all the stakeholders in the municipality, affirming that the shine of his medal belonged to each of them: associations, employees, advisors. “Without your supportI would have been quite alone. »

The ceremony ended with a convivial moment where the municipal council offered the famous Ménil galette, accompanied by champagne. This evening was an opportunity to celebrate the recognition of municipal elected officials in the community life.
