The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Fatou Diouf, underlined Monday in Mbour (West), the importance of establishing port and road corridors, to ensure good connectivity in transport between port sites and roadways to better boost the country’s economic development.

“Economic development can only be achieved by establishing a system of corridors to connect port sites to road and rail routes. This will allow us to achieve our economic objectives. This is the whole challenge of good connectivity between ports,” said the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure.

Fatou Diouf believes that mobility and accessibility are characteristics of an economically competitive country.

She chaired, in Pointe Séréne (Mbour), the opening of a workshop on the sustainable development of corridors in Senegal, organized by the Senegalese Shippers’ Council (COSEC).

This seminar aims to guarantee that goods can leave Senegal, pass through the port, cross the entire country, destined for neighboring countries, “in complete efficiency and safety, thanks to good connectivity which is based on corridors,” said Fatou Diouf.

“Senegal, due to its strategic geographical position, has immense potential to become a maritime hub in West Africa,” said the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure.

“This,” she continued, “cannot be achieved without intelligent management of the routes that connect it to the rest of the world.”

“With transport corridors that connect our ports to national and international markets, we have a unique opportunity to strengthen our position as a commercial hub in West Africa,” noted Fatou Diouf.

She magnified the role that COSEC plays in this dynamic.
