In Charente-Maritime, the Department unveiled its winter plan for the 2025 season. Implemented from Monday December 9 until March 3the winter plan ensures the security motorists on the department's roads throughout the winter season.

Throughout the season, 70 agents of the Department's infrastructure department are available 24 hours a day to intervene on the road network in the event of bad weather. On a daily basis, the agents monitor the weather forecasts and, if necessary, trigger salting operations.

In total, 1,330 km of road network can be treated simultaneously. In the Department, 27 salt storage sites are distributed throughout the territory. So, 1,500 tonnes salt are available everywhere in Charente-Maritime.

Preventive thaws essential to protect the roads

In addition to being essential for the safety of motorists, thawing operations carried out preventively prevent roads from being damaged by frost.

To predict frost periods, several frost depth measuring stations have been installed on departmental roads to anticipate the need for thaw barriers.
