After several years of study, Nathalie Giraud became the second Mahorese notary. She was sworn in on Thursday December 5, 2024 at the Mamoudzou appeals chamber.
It was a moment of great emotion for the young woman from a small country. For the swearing-in ceremony, she is surrounded by her family who have always supported her in her journey, but before this big moment Nathalie confides “I was stressed, the day before I was stressed until the next day, I was always stressed.”
Stress and above all a lot of emotion. Nathalie Giraud, at around forty years old, mother of two children, is the first Mahorean notary to take the oath on her island.
I solemnly swore before the magistrates that I would exercise my functions with all the values that this requires.
She explains before adding “I was more than relieved, moved also because I was supported by my entire family who were able to participate because it was in Mayotte. They were able to be present at my side.”
A difficult journey for the mother. After a master's degree in private law, she returned to Mayotte and decided to follow her notary studies remotely while working in a notary office. “It was complicated but fortunately my family helped me throughout my journey” explains Nathalie. The revisions were not always easy either according to her:
I had to study, work and at the same time take care of my family. So it was quite complicated since the others had enough time to learn the lessons.
We also had to juggle traveling around France for the oral exams. And all of this is expensive. She would not have been able to realize her project without the financial assistance of the department of Mayotte. “These are paid studies in the sense that each time I take a module, I pay. Every time you want to do training, you have to pay, pay, pay. Fortunately I was lucky enough to have funding from the departmental council when I was in mainland France.
For the moment, no professional change on the horizon for the second Mahorese notary. Nathalie Giraud continues her work in the notary office before launching herself later, why not into major projects.
