“We received 11 fines, some of my neighbors received up to 20, and I even read in a group that one person would have received 40,” says a resident of Thionville on Facebook. For almost five days, many people have been forced to pay fines (€15 each) for fear of increases. Meanwhile, the postman continued to distribute tickets, particularly in the center of Thionville.
Following a computer “malfunction” of the fines publishing system encountered by ANTAI (National Agency for Automated Offenses Processing), a certain number of users have received fines in recent days for illegal parking on public property. City of Thionville, explains Pierre Cuny, the mayor of the Moselle town, on Facebook. “After analyzing the situation, the number of reports issued as well as their sometimes unjustified nature lead me to cancel the reports published in recent months due to this computer error,” he adds.
The director of security and public peace at the City of Thionville, Laurent Cavalieri, tells France 3 Grand Est that in a few days he was sent six months of fines, so 12,500 fines. “I take them one after the other, and I check what people are saying. And then I cancel them,” he explains. On the other hand, for those who have already paid, “we will not be able to go back,” Pierre Cuny told our colleagues.
