After Roquefort, La Cavalerie and Belmont-sur-Rance, the Aveyron gendarmes met in the Salles-Curan village hall which served as the setting this Friday at the end of the morning for the celebration of Saint Geneviève, patroness of gendarmes.
A patron saint of gendarmes, several speakers will recall the history of this choice and in particular Colonel Brachet, head of the Aveyron gendarmerie group who will highlight: “A strong woman with a keen sense of duty, Geneviève embodies the values of justice, courage and diplomacy. These values are yours, these values are ours; you bring them to life every day through your action. Geneviève is also the symbol of proximity, that is the DNA of the gendarmerie. You know how important it is to establish a relationship of trust with those you protect.
The boss of the Aveyron gendarmes highlighted “very offensive action” of the latter for the fight against drug trafficking: “In less than three years we have tripled the number of drivers testing positive for drugs.” Before continuing with the decisive action of the gendarmes on drug trafficking, highlighting “These small dealers who think they are taking over our beautiful territory of Aveyron, they will not pass. Nearly 60 trafficking operations have been dismantled in one year, we will not give up”indicated Colonel Brachet.
Aveyron on the podium in terms of resolving burglary incidents
He also mentioned the fight against burglaries: “Aveyron is a land like any other which can suffer these facts but our department is also recognized at the level of Occitanie in first place and in third place at the national level for the resolution of the facts.”
Good results which, as at the departmental level, should be highlighted for the South Aveyron gendarmerie company, as Captain Frédéric Moinet, commanding the latter, did a few minutes earlier. He notably recalled the highlights of the past year across the entire territory covered by the company in terms of good results.
He has not forgotten the investment of the gendarmes in supporting major events across the entire area covered by the company. The usual events were added this year by the passing of the Olympic flame, without forgetting a few weeks later the presence of several police officers from the company in Paris to ensure the security of this global event.
A vital territorial network in the action of the gendarmes
Once finished, the gendarmes found their colleagues who remained in South Aveyron and resumed their various missions. The opportunity also for Senator Alain Marc to salute the quality of French intelligence thanks in particular to the gendarmes who are on the ground daily.
A presence welcomed by the president of the Departmental Council, Arnaud Viala who highlighted the important role of the gendarmerie thanks to its territorial coverage “which is very dear to us, especially when you intervene to support socially difficult situations”.
The sub-prefect of Millau, Véronique Martin Saint-Léon, also did not fail to emphasize “this territorial network which is demanding in Aveyron and in particular on the Millau company which covers more than 40% of the department.” And as such, she wanted to reassure both the elected officials and the police of the company about the support that will always be hers, particularly with regard to the projects mentioned a few minutes earlier, such as the construction of the new barracks. Saint-Affrique.
A place in which this traditional ceremony of Saint Geneviève, patron saint of the Gendarmes, will perhaps be celebrated in the coming years.
