Quadruple Olympic champion at the Paris Games, Toulouse swimmer Léon Marchand will have left his mark on 2024. A few days before the end of the year, the 22-year-old athlete was once again rewarded for his performances.
Léon Marchand enters a little more into History. But also in a very closed circle. The Toulousain, quadruple Olympic swimming champion during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was crowned Champion of Champions France 2024 by the sports daily L'Équipe. The 22-year-old swimmer thus won this distinction for the second time, having already been elected in 2023.

“The new elected official” wrote L’Équipe to illustrate this victory. With 1,353 points on the clock, the TOEC Dauphins swimmer was well ahead of Teddy Riner (748 points, two gold medals in judo in Paris, one in singles and one in teams), as well as Antoine Dupont, another athlete from the Toulouse region (730 points, a gold medal in rugby 7). A few days ago, a survey carried out by Odoxa for Winamax and RTL named Léon Marchand as the best sportsman of the year 2024. Teddy Riner and Antoine Dupont already completed the podium.

The French judoka was elected three times in past years (2012, 2016 and 2017) as was Julian Alaphilippe (2019, 2020 and 2021). Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena (rally, 2007 and 2009) and Tony Parker (2003 and 2013) also have two distinctions of this title awarded since 1946 for France. Léon Marchand becomes the first French swimmer to sign the double and joins Laure Manaudou, rewarded in 2004 and 2006. This year, it was Cassandre Beaugrand (triathlon gold medalist) who won the women's race.
