What do business leaders think of the announced fall of the Barnier government? Nadège Risse, the president of the Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Moselle, was the guest of Bleu Lorraine this Wednesday, December 4.

The Barnier government could therefore fall this Wednesday afternoon, following the two motions of censure filed by the New Popular Front and the National Rally, after the triggering section 49.3 by the Prime Minister to pass the Social Security budget without a vote. One of these two motions has every chance of being adopted, with a minimum of 288 votes out of the 574 deputies who currently make up the National Assembly. This new political crisis greatly worries the economic world.

Bad signal sent to our German or Luxembourg neighbors

A France without a budget means an immediate shutdown of the economy, but this economy has already been slowing down since the dissolution“, explains Nadège Risse, president of the Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CPME) in Moselle. “The Prime Minister had revised his copy. In our opinion, it is preferable that this budget be passed, to allow us to move forward and believe in the future again.“. The Moselle business leader fears in particular direct consequences on employment : “Currently, in France, there are 250,000 jobs threatened in companies in a situation of safeguarding or receivership.“. And particularly here in Moselle, these consequences could be even more significant: “There are 1,500 establishments with foreign capital in our department, providing more than 31,000 jobs. Without government or budget, the ingredients will not be there to have confidence in the future“.

Many observers also fear considerable repercussions on the financial markets, and for the question of France's debt. What is the link with our Moselle companies? “This is a major problem“, explains Nadège Risse. “Interest rates for repaying our debt will increase. Mechanically, the taxes of French people, businesses and citizens alike, will also increase. These are bad signals for the future, investments will not happen“. According to the CPME, 21% of companies say they have suspended their investments.

Intelligence collective

Hence this call for responsibility sent by the employers' organization to the deputies. “When you are a business leader, you always have hope, because you believe in the future. But here it starts to get seriously dark.” Nadège Risse a written to each of the nine deputies of Moselleto express their fears and ask them to take into account the concerns of businesses when deciding on the government's motions of censure. “What will the 50,000 business leaders in Moselle think if the government falls?

Nadège Risse insists that business leaders need three ingredients: “Readability, to have public policies understood and shared. Stability, to believe in it, to invest, to reassure investors and encourage long-term commitment. And visibility, to allow us to plan our projects and create value. It is really imperative that we manage to close this budget and get off to a good start.. We talk a lot about artificial intelligence, I believe it is quite simply collective intelligence, which we need“.
