Two dead and dozens injured. Several days after the terrible bus accident which occurred on the road to Andorra, Porté-Puymorens (Pyrénées-Orientales), the very heavy toll remains provisional. And while the investigation continues to determine the circumstances of the events, the transport company is in turmoil.
The bus did not have up-to-date technical inspections
According to the latest revelations made by the Spanish press, the bus which transported 47 people (46 passengers and the driver) did not have its technical inspection up to date, and this for over a yearnamely since October 2023, specifies the newspaper We buywhich cites government sources. Information confirmed by other media.
“The vehicle had to pass this inspection every six months, so it had skipped two,” continues the Catalan daily. As a reminder, according to initial testimonies, the bus would have lost its brakes in the descent of Pas de la Casa, before embedding itself in the cliff.
This main hypothesis has not yet been confirmed by the investigators and the collective accidents center of the Marseille public prosecutor's office, now in charge of the investigations. Anyway, this new revelation comes compromise a little more the organization of the trip and the transport company.
The company in turmoil
As a reminder, the latter, based in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat near Barcelona, where most of the passengers also come from, is in turmoil at the start of the week. According to the city mayor, an investigation was opened into the two companies involvednamely Chavi Tours, organizer of the trip, and Hispa Travi, owner of the bus.
According to the Catalan elected official, the first had been declared bankrupt a few months ago. His manager would also be among those injured in the accident and could be the driver of the bus. On Google, Chavi Tours was multiplying alarming reviews (read opposite). Several “bad experiences” have been recounted by former customers.
Furthermore, the mayor of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat claims to have no official trace of this trip to Andorra. The latter would have been organized via social networks for a ridiculous price of 27 euros. To avoid having to pay for the Puymorens tunnel, the bus would have finally chosen to go via the RN 320, the axis where it ended its course against the cliff.
