The Gard Food Bank was the victim on the night of Wednesday, November 27 of a despicable and outrageous criminal act just a few days after its national collection. Six refrigerated trucks were set on fire in Nîmes, representing almost 500,000 euros of investment.
These trucks were used on a daily basis to collect food donations from stores and redistribute them to local associations.
In France, 2.4 million people experiencing food insecurity are supported through more than 6,000 associations, CCAS and partner social grocery stores. “The demand for food aid has continued to grow since 2008. In this fight, the Food Bank is an essential player in food aid in Gard. On behalf of the municipality of Vauvert, I want to express all my solidarity with the food bank, its volunteers with orange vests active in favor of the most deprived terribly affected by this abominable act. We must show solidarity to help the most vulnerable. This is why on Monday, December 9, I will propose an exceptional grant of 2,000 euros to the Gard Food Bank which will be added to the contribution also made in the territory by the Petite Camargue Community of Communes and to the call for solidarity donations. launched by the Food Bank » specifies Jean Denat, mayor of Vauvert.
