In April 2024, during a municipal council meeting, the mayor of Pornichet, Jean-Claude Pelleteur, announced the city's decision to equip seven of its municipal police officers(1) lethal (i.e. potentially lethal) weapons. This is Glock 45 (9mm).

45 hour training

The reason: “Protect the men and women who ensure the daily safety of Pornichetins, in the face of increasingly violent delinquency”.

“It is now done,” announced the municipality in a press release sent to the media on Tuesday December 3, 2024.

After a psychological evaluation requested by the municipality, seven agents followed “demanding theoretical and practical training of 45 hours to validate their ability to carry a weapon”. A journey that will continue throughout their career.

“For the vast majority of them, carrying a lethal weapon is nothing new, most of them having already had experience within the national police or gendarmerie. »

“The missions of the agents, for their part, remain unchanged, giving priority to prevention and surveillance,” recalls Frédéric Morvan, elected in charge of security.

(1) The Pornichet municipal police force is made up of 9 police officers and 1 ASVP (public highway surveillance officer).
