Municipal councilor since 2012, Véronique Arnould hoped to become alderman with her 438 preferred votes. However, it was announced during the electoral campaign, and the presentation of the Horizon 2030 list, that the aldermanships would be allocated according to the skills of the elected officials and not necessarily according to the electoral scores. The new college presented is almost identical to that in place during the 2018-2024 legislature, with the exception of Luc Bossart who was no longer represented. Antoine Mahin, also re-elected councilor, was appointed alderman even if with 405 votes of preference, he obtained fewer votes than Véronique Arnould.
“A wake-up call”
Caroline Duchêne evokes a composition of a new municipal college without consultation with the entire majority group. “ The composition of the college was decided and imposed on the advisors of the majority, without any consultation or group spirit. I therefore do not endorse this document.” she justifies. The advisor says she does not question the skills of the people chosen to compose the council. “ However, by this lack of taking a position, I would like to highlight the lack of consideration of the majority’s advisors in the context of the development of this majority pact.” she said however, evoking “an alarm bell calling for a unifying, constructive and consultative policy”
Anne Laffut, as leader, says she “takes note” of these decisions and understands that there can be “to be disappointed”but confides that all this will be discussed in a group meeting. “Politics is not a long, quiet river and I see that there is no desire to block everything, she reacts. We will also continue to work together.”
The two councilors continue in the majority
The two councilors who abstained are not considering leaving the majority by sitting as independents. A clarification which is important in the new configuration of the municipal council in Libin. Because the Horizon 2030 majority has 10 seats out of 17 (loss of 4 seats compared to the 2018 election) facing a reinforced minority made up of the 4 elected officials from the Agir Ensemble list and the 3 Vision d’Avenir elected officials.
The majority pact was adopted by 8 votes for, 7 votes against and therefore 2 abstentions.
