The decree was published on December 3 and concerns two municipalities in Vendée. Indeed, Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile and Beauvoir-sur-Mer were recognized as being in a state of natural disaster following the damage caused by storm Kirk on October 9, 2024.

A level never reached in ten years

In both municipalities, cumulative precipitation had reached levels that had not been observed for at least ten years. On the island of Noirmoutier, for example, 98 mm of rain fell in 24 hours. This was a record since 1946.

On October 9, many residents found themselves with their feet in water and a crisis unit was even set up in Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile to manage the floods.

Thirty days

Following the publication of this decree in the Official Journal, residents who have suffered damage have 30 working days to contact their insurance company.
