You will soon see two bees on the town entrance signs and on the municipal communication media of the Town of (Val-d'Oise).

Two bees, that’s what the town has just won. A “prize” awarded by the French National Beekeeping Union.

Through its APIcité label, the association rewards communities which are committed to the promotion of bees, their development and more generally to biodiversity.

“Beyond the affixing of a logo, it is much more the recognition of the work carried out by our city which is recognized”, welcomes Xavier Péricat, first deputy mayor in charge of public spaces and green spaces.

Inaugurated a year ago (but the first hives arrived three years earlier), the apiary school on rue de l'Aveyron, in the Orgemont district, perched on a hill overlooking the A15 motorway, has storefront.

On the grounds of the allotment gardens, La Goutte d'Or has its chalet. The association is based on city land which it has free use of.

“Bringing together family gardens, which produce vegetables, plants and flowers and fruit bushes, with an educational apiary, this obviously makes sense in order to promote pollination,” says Xavier Péricat.

“Here, the bees are good”

Individuals' attraction to bees has never been stronger. Many residents of Argenteuil and surrounding communities learn here how to create and then maintain a beehive on a daily basis, either in the garden or at home.

La Goutte d'Or, whose aim is to develop beekeeping, trains amateurs all year round. “Here, it’s calm, no neighborhood problems. The bees are good, we have dandelions, fruit trees in flower, the Butte de Cormeilles and the Schlumberger park, the Butte d’Orgemont, the family gardens and those of the neighbors,” underlines Didier Darreau, secretary of the Goutte d’ gold.

From now on, the city center neighborhood committee in turn wishes to develop a school apiary thanks to the participatory budget. The bee is making a buzz.
