In its quest for savings, the Government had decided to temporarily freeze pensions. A gesture that must have gone down badly with seniors, called to demonstrate this Tuesday, December 3, 2024, throughout France.
In Nancy, there were around fifty people expressing their dissatisfaction. In an interview with the Prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle they outlined their concerns and their requests.
“We will continue to lose purchasing power,” explains Jean-Marie Bekhouche, delegate to the Inter-union of retirees of Meurthe-et-Moselle. “This has been the case since 2017. At the CGT level, we estimate that we have lost two and a half months of retirement pension, because of the decisions taken by the Government.”
Today you have women who are on €790 per month in retirement, still telling these people to save money… It's unacceptable, it's intolerable!
Jean-Marie Bekhouche, inter-union delegate
The demonstrators are demanding pensions equal to the minimum wage for a full career, an immediate increase between 100 euros and 300 euros and the application of 2.2% inflation for 2025.
“We are being offered 0.9% on January 1, 2025, 0.9% on July 1, 2025 for the smallest pensions below €1,420, that's far from the 2.2% increase compared to the inflation index. We are here to denounce this government scam. continues the inter-union delegate. “The debt is neither the retirees nor the employees who are responsible today. The debt is the Mozarts of finance”.
A mobilization of retirees is also planned in Metz (Moselle), at 2:30 p.m. in front of the Prefecture.
