The Department of Mayenne organized “a launching ceremony” for the new Solidarité seniors civic service session, on November 26, 2024, in Laval (Mayenne). In conjunction with the Unis-Cité association, ten young volunteers are joining, for 10 months, one of the six reception establishments for the elderly in the department (three in Laval, one in Pontmain, one in Horps and one in Mayenne).
“An essential look”
“They will bring r new energy as well as a fresh perspective essential to creating rich and meaningful intergenerational links”, explains Aurélie Mahier who provided operational and financial support for this civic service project.
« This program has existed since 2021,” explains Stéphanie Aledji, team and project coordinator who supports these 10 young people. “Aged 16 to 25, they are on mission 3 days a week in the structures and one day in a group session to reflect on projects, current issues and the subject of citizenship. »
“Satisfy my need to be useful”
Caitlin Durandet, 23 years old and originally from Mayenne, future school teacher, chose to do this service “ to know the social world and satisfy your need to be useful to people”. Floriane Poulnais, 20 years old, who has just completed her psychology degree and who has always been in contact with children, « wanted to see another form of population, particularly that of seniors to combat their isolation. This will be an opportunity to gain confidence in myself and increase my skills.
“One in two young people continue in an activity related to aging well”, at the end of her civic service, underlines Stéphanie Aledji, after 3 years of experience.
