“Rather than going to Jardiland, you can come here to pick up a tree and cut a few! This will prevent this space from being lost.” Equipped with gloves, a saw and pruning shears, this father took his two children on an original outing this Saturday, November 30: all three came to choose their Christmas tree… directly in full of nature! In Pérols-sur-Vézère, in Corrèze, the Conservatory of Natural Spaces of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (CEN) offers this “win-win” volunteer project. themselves their conifer; on the other, this annual cutting helps maintain the peat bogs and heaths.
“We are with nature, it's better than being in a store“, smiles a teenager, surrounded by around thirty people present on the Millevaches plateau. Especially since between two tree cuttings, an educational workshop is held. For the CEN, addressing a family audience is the opportunity to raise awareness among young and old about the natural life of the landscape. Antoine Begnaud, project manager, brandishes a branch in the direction of the group gathered in an arc in front of him: “Scots pines are the ones that have these needles, so conifers!“He shows a second:”Not to be confused with spruces, those which were widely planted.“
Owner of field since 1999, the association vensure the good health of the ninety hectares of the Ars and Pont Tord site. This is made up of dry moors that are particularly beautiful in spring, when callune heather and ash heather flower in particular, and a few peat bogs punctuating the valleys. This voluntary project organized for the end-of-year holidays complements the work carried out by sheep and cattle breeders, whose animals graze here a few months earlier. “We must keep the heath openexplains Antoine Begnaud. This means cutting down small trees that grow back, despite grazing. We also keep a certain number of interesting species.“
This is the third year that the CEN has initiated this operation which is attracting more and more people. This Saturday, November 30, around a hundred trees were cut down.
