The North first in the region for donations, world record: the results of the Telethon in our departments

The Telethon weekend ended on the night of Saturday to Sunday, with more than 970,000 euros raised in Pas-de- and the . The latter is the department which gave the most in Hauts-de-.

972,193 euros raised in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais for the 38th edition of the Telethon, a television marathon to call on spectators for donations, for the benefit of research against rare diseases. 80 million euros in pledges at the national level on the clock, at the end of the evening which ended on the night of Saturday to Sunday December 1, 2024.

The Nord is the department which gave the most in Hauts-de-Francewith 636,390 euros, ahead Pas-de-Calais and its 335,803 euros pledges of donations. These amounts differ from those of last year, with almost 2 and a half million euros in donations in the North, and 1.6 million in Pas-de-Calais. If we look at the evolution of the amounts collected over ten yearswe have noticed a general decline in the two departments since 2013, which follows the same trend as at the national level.

25,000 euros raised in Avesnes-sur-Helpe

Please note that these figures are provisional, since the entire month of December remains to make your Telethon donations, by calling 36-37, or all year by going to the Telethon website. To obtain the exact amount, we must also wait until the municipalities have finished counting what the weekend's demonstrations brought in. For example, in Avesnes-sur-Helpe – a town of 4,200 inhabitants which was one of the ambassadors of the event this year – the record for the largest flamiche at Maroilles in the world has been broken : 73 meters long and 180 kilograms of cheese. Avesnes-sur-Helpe also broke its record for the amount raised this weekend, with around 25,000 euros, according to initial estimates.

Special mention also to the town of Rœux in Arrageois, which is among the five most generous municipalities of less than 1,500 inhabitants in France. 300,000 euros collected alone in twenty years. Again this year, there were a lot of people and a lot of activities planned, including Santa Claus on mopeds and more than a thousand meals served. Among the sporting challenges, we can cite the one launched by Stéphane Plancke, a fifty-year-old suffering from limb-girdle myopathy. This man, who can no longer run and has difficulty walking, managed to cycle 500 km between Bergues and Evry, passing through Avesnes, the ambassador city. He has at least collected more than 2,000 euros alone.
