A month of December of anger and social movements announced in Gard

While a political crisis is looming, protests are not weakening in at the end of the year among civil servants, railway workers, retirees and farmers.

Against the backdrop of the upcoming political crisis in the event of a motion of censure in the National Assembly and possible resignation of the government, social movements and the expression of anger will increase, particularly in Gard.

Thursday, December 5, two days after a first action by retirees (gathering on December 3, 10:30 a.m., in front of the Alès sub-prefecture), as part of a call for a strike launched at the national level by Sud, the CFDT, Unsa, FSU, CGT and SNALC, civil servants will mobilize: “The increase from one to three days of waiting time, the reduction in compensation for sick leave are punitive measures as if civil servants were guilty of being ill even though successive governments bear heavy responsibility for the deterioration of their working conditions and their health.”

Working conditions and salaries have strained the civil service. Among teachers, we want the elimination of the waiting day, the revaluation of the index point, a real status also for those accompanying students with disabilities and the abandonment of the proposed job cuts. The unions are therefore calling on Thursday, December 5 to gather in Alès, from 10 a.m., in front of the sub-prefecture, and in Nîmes, at 2 p.m., in front of the Maison Carrée.

Industry Day

Just as with this mobilization in the public service, we do not know what the consequences will be of the railway workers' strike which will begin on December 11, at 7 p.m. The inter-union wants a moratorium on the dismantling of Fret SNCF and rejects any opening to competition from regional lines. However, travelers can expect disruptions on the SNCF lines crossing the Gard.

Furthermore, on Thursday December 12, the Gard CGT is organizing, like everywhere in , a mobilization for industry and the environment in Salindres in front of the Solvay factory, the planned closure of which will result in the loss of 68 jobs.

On the sidelines of these social movements, farmers will put pressure on the authorities with a new call for mobilization on Monday December 9 and Tuesday December 10 launched at the national level by the FDSEA and Young Farmers unions. For an end of the year of great protest.
