A convoy was intercepted on national road 7 between Chanas and Vienne by police officers from the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) of Isère, this Tuesday, November 26. The police put an end to a “go fast” which was coming from the south of France.
Two vehicles were immobilized by the police, according to information from Dauphiné Libéré, confirmed by Eric Vaillant, public prosecutor of Grenoble. The convoy, made up of an “opener” car and a “carrier” car, was led by two drivers alone on board. They were arrested and then placed in police custody.
After a thorough search of the Peugeot 3008 “carrier” vehicle, the police discovered a cache in which nearly 23 kilograms of cocaine packaged in bread were hidden. A shipment of narcotics estimated at more than a million euros.
Following this discovery, several searches were carried out by investigators. They notably gave rise to the seizure of “100,500 euros to the home of the driver opening the convoy“, adds Eric Vaillant, public prosecutor of Grenoble.
These seizures and arrests were carried out as part of a preliminary investigation carried out under the direction of the Grenoble public prosecutor's office and carried out by the DCOS Isère teams since April 2024.
At the end of their police custody, the two drivers, aged 24 and 30 respectively, were referred this Friday, November 29 as part of the opening of a judicial investigation. One of the two men, from the Lyon region, is known to the police for violating drug legislation.
Both were indicted for the heads “importation, acquisition, transport, possession, offer or transfer of narcotics, criminal association and laundering of drug trafficking – for one of them — ” specifies the Grenoble public prosecutor's office. They were placed under arrest warrant and imprisoned.
“These arrests come at the end of several months of investigations carried out by investigators from the OFAST 38 detachment which made it possible to materialize the existence of routes for the importation of narcotics from Spain carried out by a network of seasoned traffickers and intended for supply of deal points in the Lyon and Grenoble metropolitan areas“, explains Eric Vaillant, public prosecutor of Grenoble.
