According to the DLR/Asterès barometer for the third quarter of 2024, rental companies recorded a turnover increase of 6.4% over one year. Quarter-on-quarter, this growth remains slight (+1.1%). The unstable economic and political environment and fewer calls for tender than usual have significantly impacted their activity. Not to mention that during the summer holidays, the latter is also slower.
Declining material investments
Inversely, the indicators are poor for construction equipment distributors. While they already showed a drop in their turnover of -7.9% in the previous quarter, the decline continues at -15%. A drop in activity which reflects sales of new equipment well below the projections announced at the start of the year.
A glimmer of hope also for distribution-rental companies of industrial and agricultural handling equipment. The slight decline in activity in the second quarter was not confirmed three months later. On the contrary, they show an annual growth in their turnover of 12.3% in the third trimester.
Without being completely reassured for the future of their activities, in particular with investment projections and downward hiring intentionsthe members of the DLR nevertheless emphasize that they haveactivity in second-hand purchasing and maintenance due to the desire of companies to extend the life of their machines.
