The withdrawals continue at the Moselle Open with the announcement of the withdrawals of Rublev and Dimitrov this Tuesday.
The Moselle Open 2024 has been well underway for several days, but yet the list of registered players continues to fluctuate with last minute withdrawals that are particularly detrimental to the organization. The new avalanche began this Tuesday with the announcement of the end of the season for Novak Djokovic, injured, who will therefore not participate in the ATP Finals. Purposes in which Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur are now sure to participate. Bad luck, the first two cities were registered in Metz as seed number 1 and number 3.
Andrey Rublev presented himself well in Metz, played the signing game, trained and even participated in a meeting against Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16, without dragging his feet, winning 7-6/7 -5. After that he maintained doubts during the post-match interview before leaving Moselle. He is therefore forfeited for the rest of the tournament, citing an abdominal injury which he will treat in Turin.
On the other hand, Casper Ruud never set foot on the territory and the doubt only grew once the announcement of qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals was made. As of Tuesday evening, his visit to Metz was still scheduled… until when?
Finally, Grigor Dimitrov, who has nothing left to gain or lose at the end of the season, let the suspense burn out before finally throwing his wild card in the trash. The Bulgarian claimed to be ill and his withdrawal was made official at the start of the evening. A situation that the tournament organizers would have done well without. It is a sixth lucky loser who will come to save the program in the person of Frenchman Luca van Assche. He will challenge Cameron Norrie on Wednesday afternoon.
