“You transformed coal into art. Through will, work, commitment”greeted the Head of State, thanking those who worked on the work on the monument, ravaged by a fire in 2019.
Of dazzling beauty, Notre-Dame Cathedral was revealed this morning through a stroll by Emmanuel Macron, broadcast on several French and international channels. In a journey of around ten stages, from the square to the framework, via the nave, the crossing of the transept or even the Saint-Marcel chapel, the visit has been designed to show the main achievements of this titanic site . All of the 2,000 people who contributed to the work were invited, 1,300 were present this Friday: wood, metal and stone craftsmen, scaffolders and roofers, campanists, gilders, sculptors and even architects. All will receive a diploma “evidence of their professional commitment and the high quality of their skills”, explained the Elysée.
« The shock of the reopening will be as strong I believe as the shock of the fire but it will be a shock of hope », the head of state hoped this morning.
Emmanuel Macron has invited a large number of foreign leaders next weekend in the hope of making it a global event, but the list of those present is not yet known, and Pope Francis has preferred to go to Corsica a week later rather than in Paris.
On Sunday December 8, it will be the turn of the general public to discover the medieval cathedral after 5 years of closure.
