Julie Plier, 19, and Florian Loir, 22, died in a traffic accident in Neauphe-sous-Essai (Orne) on the night of June 15 to 16, 2024. They were passengers in the car. The driver, a 21-year-old man, was sentenced this Thursday, November 28, to four years in prison, two of which were suspended on probation by the Alençon court (Orne) for homicide and involuntary injuries. A warrant of detention with deferred effect was issued for the firm part. Which means he will soon be incarcerated for two years.

The night of the tragedy, this friend of Florian Loir took responsibility for driving, while the group of friends from the Sées region went out to a bar in Alençon. On the way back to a nightclub, the driver has already drunk a half and a pint of beer, as well as a splash of vodka – his blood alcohol level will therefore be 0.68 g per liter of blood, two hours later the accident. As on the outward journey, he agrees to welcome one more person in his vehicle for the return trip: Julie Plier, who sits on Florian Loir's lap.

The car was traveling at least 110 km/h instead of 80

On the dual carriageway towards Sées, the car was traveling at excessive speed. Until the driver lost control, at least 110 km/h instead of 80, in a bend, near the place called Les Trois-Cornes. The car then hits a concrete fence, which hits Florian Loir and Julie Plier. When help arrives, they will be declared deceased. The driver and three other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

During the trial, the prosecution requested five years in prison against the defendant, three of which were suspended. He was ultimately sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended for two years. Upon his release from detention, he will have to work, receive treatment, and compensate the victims. His license is canceled and he is prohibited from retaking it for three years.
