Bernard Denis, former mayor of Saint-Côme-du-Mont, delegated commune of Carentan-les-Marais (Manche), was convened this Wednesday November 27, 2024 at the criminal hearing of judicial court of Coutances (Manche) to answer for sexual exhibition facts committed between March 11 and July 2, 2022, in Saint-Côme-du-Mont.

The former elected official was prosecuted for having exhibited, on several occasions, her private parts to a cleaning lady at the town hall of Saint-Côme-du-Mont.

File behind closed doors

The case was closed this Wednesday at the request of the victim's lawyer who filed a complaint in November 2022.

After deliberating, Bernard Denis was sentenced to a prison sentence of 6 months with a probationary suspension of 3 years, a sentence accompanied by an obligation for psychiatric care, a ban on contact with the victim and ineligibility for 5 years.

Remember that the former elected official from La Manche had already been sentenced to a six-month suspended sentence for false accusations. His lawyer also requested that the two sentences be combined, which the court refused.

He claimed to be the victim of imaginary attacks in May and November 2022. During the previous hearing in March 2024, he admitted his guilt.

The accelerated trial procedure did not allow the victim of sexual assault to express herself and take note of the former mayor's explanations.
