In 2024, the “Sud de l’Eure Cycling” club (Tillière-sur-Avre, Eure) took a new turn, with a determination to become a player in cycling in the region.
The machine restarted
On the competition side, if this year seems to have served as a test, the projects are coming to fruition for the coming season.
After the “Covid years” which also slowed down the world of cycling, the South of Eure cycling (SDL) restarted the machine with the creation of a team in the “open” category last year.
For this project, the 2024 recruitments made it possible to have just enough staff to participate in stage races such as the » Yvelines Tower » or the » Tour of Flers agglomeration “. But the European club does not intend to stop there.
Four new riders at the club
For 2025, the team already made up of Enzo Poisson, Johan Poisson, Alban Breuilly et Dimitri Le Normand will be completed by four new members. Joshua Guingand (VC Aiglon), Théo Savalle (La Feuillie Cycliste), Thomas Beaune (VC Vernon) and Antoine Cumont (La Feuillie Cycliste) join the SDL workforce.
With this new promising team made up of eight riders, the colors of the south of Eure will be even better represented at the start of races in and around the region.
By strengthening its ranks, the team aims to participate in as many stage races and great one-day races as possible.
“In a good way”
“Everything is going in the right direction for the club,” rejoices Julien Gillesthe president of the SDL.
According to Jean-Luc Deluganpresident of the Eure cycling committee, “unfortunately we cannot say the same about all the clubs”.
While the number of licensees increases in the SDL, it decreases in the department. With the difficulties in finding subsidies and sponsorship, then in attracting the younger generations, “small clubs must reinvent themselves,” notes Julien Gilles.
Two professional cyclists south of the Eure cycling
Among its members, the club counts Nicolas Prodhomme, professional cyclist within the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale training and trained since his younger years at the club. In 2025, the SDL will welcome a new professional licensee. Killian Théot has just signed his first professional contract with the Van Rysel – Roubaix team. It was at the SDL that the 25-year-old cyclist chose to take his amateur license, where he trained during his junior years. A way to show one's attachment to and recognition of South Eure cycling, to the delight of managers and riders.
Organization of a race in honor of Nicolas Prodhomme
To reinvent itself, the SDL has no shortage of ideas for 2025. While it organizes a race every year in May, the South Eure club plans to organize others, and for all categories.
Moreover, a competition in honor of Nicolas Prodhommea professional cyclist also licensed at the SDL, should be organized next summer for the youth and “access” categories.
