A 67-year-old man lost his life on Tuesday around 4:50 p.m. during an accident in Montagny-près-Yverdon (VD). After losing control of his vehicle on a curve and crossing the roadway, he struck a van coming in the opposite direction. His car ended up at the bottom of an embankment.
The motorist was traveling from Yverdon-les-Bains towards Sainte-Croix. Shortly after a curve to the left, he let his vehicle veer to the right for a reason that the investigation will try to determine, the cantonal police communicated on Wednesday.
According to initial findings, his vehicle rolled on the grassy strip and hit a marker, then crossed the roadway and hit a van coming in the opposite direction. Following this second impact, the passenger car came to rest in a field, at the bottom of an adjacent embankment, about thirty meters from the road.
A passing motorist called the emergency services who could only note the death of the victim, a 67-year-old Swiss man. The driver of the van, a 62-year-old Italian national, was interviewed. Two of its slightly injured passengers were taken to Yverdon-les-Bains hospital.
