The outgoing presidential majority will not present any candidate in the second round of the legislative elections in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). A strong rejection by voters, which can be explained by a significant emergence of the National Rally.

A massacre for the majority in the Phocaean city. On the eve of the second round of the legislative elections, the candidates from the “central bloc”, favorable to Emmanuel Macron, will not be represented in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône).

Of the 7 constituencies in the city, all the duels that will take place on July 7 will be between representatives of the National Rally and the New Popular Front. This is a bitter defeat for the outgoing majority, which had four Marseille deputies before the dissolution of the National Assembly.

A rejection of Emmanuel Macron

Following the first round of these legislative elections, three “Ensemble” candidates decided to withdraw in order to block the RN. This is notably the case of the Secretary of State for the City and Citizenship Sabrina Agresti-Roubache, who finished third in the 1st constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône. The other four did not qualify for the second round.

This electoral failure tends to be explained in particular by a strong rejection of Emmanuel Macron’s policy. Despite a desire to help develop the city and strengthen its capacities to combat insecurity, the head of state does not seem to be strongly supported in the Phocaean city.

In 7 years at the Elysée, the President of the Republic has visited Marseille around ten times, which he has often described as his “heart city”.
