Winter is fast approaching, leaving us secretly dreaming of snowy landscapes extending as far as the eye can see, and northern lights colorful colors taking over the dark sky. If these are two things that one could find in the north of Finland or in Canada for example, there is no need to cross Europe or the world to be able to enjoy them. Only an hour's drive from Paristhe Vexin regional natural park, located between Yvelines and Val d'Oise, allows you to admire this fabulous celestial phenomenon.
An ideal setting for observing the Northern Lights in Île-de-France
So here you are in the middle of 1000 km2 of nature, an absolutely ideal space for observing the Northern Lights since it is free of light pollution and allows you to admire an absolutely clear sky. It's up to you to choose your evening wisely, relying on the weather forecast and predictions from specialized applications such as Aurora Alerts or My Aurora Forecast. The rules are simple: the weather must be mild, no light must interfere and above all, it must be be patient !
A particularly favorable year for the Northern Lights
In 2024, these are not the northern lights who missed! Formed when solar winds (particles from the Sun) come into contact with the Earth's atmosphere, these pink, purple, green and blue halos of light appeared several times in the French sky between the months of May and October 2024. Many French regions have notably been able to benefit from it: on the Côte d'Azurin Auvergne, Alsace or even Brittany, fabulous northern lights could be seen. Will we have the possibility to admire others this winter? For now the mystery remains, but one thing is certain, we will stay on the lookout.
