In Spain, the detectors of the SMART project of the Institute of Astrology of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) announced the passage of this meteor over Moroccan territory at a speed of almost 60,000 km/h.

These data were recorded by different astronomical observatories in southern Spain: Huelva, Seville, Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (near Granada), Calar Alto (near Almeria) and La Hita (near Toledo), relayed Al Ahdath Al Maghribia from this Wednesday July 3.

According to the analysis carried out by astrophysicist José María Madiedo, researcher at IAA-CSIC and director of the SMART project, the movement of this fireball was recorded at 3:56 am on the morning of Sunday, June 30.

José María Madiedo has noted that “its brightness exceeded that of the full moon“, which prompted many people in Spain to monitor this phenomenon and share images of it on social networks.

The passage of this meteor in the early hours of the morning of Sunday, June 30, did not allow many people to observe this astronomical phenomenon, especially Moroccans.

According to calculations by astrophysicist José María Madiedo, “The rock that caused this phenomenon came from an asteroid and entered the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of about 60,000 km/h. The violent collision with the atmosphere, at this lightning speed, caused the surface of the rock to heat up to thousands of degrees Celsius, which transformed it into an incandescent body.».

The meteor then continued its trajectory further southeast, finally disintegrating at a speed of around 30,600 km/h.

Throughout its trajectory, explosions occurred, due to the sudden cracks that occurred in the different rocks that compose it, which increased its luminosity.

The passage of this meteor caused no damage in the region of the Kingdom where it disintegrated, and where its heat and luminosity greatly diminished.
