Rabat – Means of promoting cooperation in the fields of scientific research were at the center of discussions, Tuesday in Rabat, between the president of the Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5R) and a delegation from the Association of African Universities (AUA).

During this meeting, which is part of the strengthening of ties of friendship and cooperation between Moroccan universities and their African counterparts, the two parties reviewed the means of strengthening exchanges, particularly in higher education, innovation and scientific research.

The objective is to fully engage in exchange programs as well as research and development programs, capable of contributing to further raising the level of higher education and scientific research on the African continent.

In a statement to the press, AAU President Bakri Osman Saeed said he was delighted with the meeting, which is intended to be an opportunity to discuss issues related to improving the level of higher education in African countries.

The aim, he said, is to consolidate relations with Moroccan universities, welcoming the progress made in the field of research and innovation at the level of Moroccan universities.

For his part, the interim president of UM5R, Farid El Bach, recalled that the AAU, bringing together more than 300 renowned African universities, was created in Morocco in the sixties, noting that it contributes through its activities to the implementation of the strategic priorities of the African Union in terms of higher education, scientific research and innovation.

This meeting marks the beginning of a new era of mutual assistance, said Mr. El Bacha, affirming that “it is an Africa that is taking its destiny in hand, an Africa capable of all possibilities and our universities have a major role to play at this level.”

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the AAU, Olusola Oyewole, as well as the head of the Centers of Excellence for Higher Education in Africa (ACE Impact) project, Sylvia Mkandawire, in addition to the presidents of the establishments under the Mohammed V University.
