The French National Codification Office is represented on the territory by the Defense Material Identification Center (CIMD) located in Bruz (Ille-et-Vilaine) within the premises of the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Information Control (DGA Mi). Responsible for codifying the supply items of all the armed forces, it is preparing in particular for the possible establishment of a high-intensity conflict by seeking to increase the number of French and foreign suppliers.

Lieutenant Colonel Cyrille Kergoat took over as head of the CIMD on March 15. He is in familiar territory because since 2022, he has been head of the operational division and deputy director. This Air Force mechanic officer was notably assigned to the army cyber defense group.

The center identifies and codifies all the supply items of the armed forces. We must consolidate and exploit the catalog to participate in the resilience of the country, interoperability and cost control. he says.

Thus, the CIMD is trying to increase the number of French and foreign suppliers in the event of the neutralization of certain French civilian companies. Work is also being carried out on the language used in the catalogue, which is common to all NATO countries and 33 partner countries. For example: a simple bolt must be able to be recognized by all the states concerned. Cost control is also a topical issue with the general pooling of stocks. A study is also underway on the implementation of tools based on artificial intelligence.

CIMD is recruiting

The CIMD, which is a very specialized and little-known structure, seeks to recruit civilians, young people and people less young at technician and engineer level, i.e. people with at least a Bac + 2 level. In the next three to four years, we will lose a third of our workforce through retirements. Four work-study positions are offered. Already a first work-study student welcomed at the center is starting a fixed-term contract in a few days that will very quickly become a permanent contract. In order to make itself known, the CIMD welcomes middle and high school students. We signed an agreement with the Marie Curie college in Laillé.
