The outgoing MP for the 5the Seine-Saint-Denis constituency, Raquel Garrido, has decided not to participate in the second round of the legislative elections. The dissident candidate came third, behind the candidate nominated by the New Popular Front (NFP).

Following the first round of early legislative elections, which took place this Sunday, June 30, there was to be a three-way race in the 5e constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis for the second round. In the end, there will be none. Indeed, the outgoing deputy La France Insoumise (LFI), Raquel Garrido, announced that she was withdrawing her candidacy this Monday 1is July. “I am withdrawing because I do not have a variable geometry principle,” the dissident candidate declared on BFMTV.

Raquel Garrido withdraws in favor of the NFP candidate

Raquel Garrido, who will therefore not be able to be re-elected as deputy of the 5e constituency, had nevertheless qualified for the second round of the legislative elections by obtaining 23.65% of the votes. But she came in third place behind the candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP), Aly Diouara (33.10%) and that of the Union of Democrats and Independents (UDI), Aude Lagarde (24.56%). The outgoing MP therefore decided to withdraw in favor of the NFP candidate.

However, Raquel Garrido, before announcing her withdrawal, had called Céline Verzeletti, candidate in the 15e constituency of Paris, and Sabrina Ali Benali, candidate in the 7the constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis to do the same. The latter, both candidates invested by the NFP, are arrived behind LFI dissidents in the first roundA request that was not heard by Céline Verzeletti and Sabrina Ali Benali who are maintaining their positions.
