The City of Rouyn-Noranda is launching a major consultation on housing. With the help of an external firm, it wants to get a clear picture of the situation and find solutions to the current crisis.

According to the president of the Rouyn-Noranda housing committee, Samuelle Ramsay-Houle, the city wants to paint a picture of the supply and demand in terms of housing.

We want an accurate picture, because the issues can differ from one person to another and from one neighbourhood to another. An action plan will be established based on the real needs that have been identified. The survey was put online on Tuesday, July 2. Responses will be received until September 22 inclusive.

Three different questionnaires were developed to target people concerned about the housing crisis or looking for housing, homeowners and employers. The survey takes less than ten minutes to complete and is presented in the form of mainly multiple-choice questions.

Interviews will also be conducted with businesses and major employers in Rouyn-Noranda to understand their needs and challenges in terms of housing. The results of the consultation will be known in the fall, as will the next steps to be taken.
