The first book to retrace the last presidential election

After “Senegal under Laser Politics” launched just before the electoral contests, the lawyer-writer Boubacar Mohamed Racine SY returns with a new work entitled “Presidential 2024 in Senegal, Checkmate” published by l’Harmattan Senegal.

The book looks ahead to Senegal’s 2024 presidential elections, a crucial moment for the country’s democracy. The narrative details intense political rivalries, particularly between President Macky Sall’s camp, represented by Prime Minister Amadou Ba, and Pastef, a fast-rising party backed by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.

Despite the presence of other candidates, the election is taking on the appearance of a referendum between the government in place and its most staunch opposition.

The book illustrates the resilience of Senegalese democracy which has shone despite the challenges.

He also praised the vital role of judicial institutions, notably the Constitutional Council and the Supreme Court, which played a decisive role in ensuring that the elections were held despite attempts at disruption.

The young author explores in depth the figure of Macky Sall, questioning whether he is a political genius or a Machiavellian. He also addresses the rise of the political phenomenon Ousmane Sonko, as well as the presidential destiny of the new president, illustrating the divine hand behind his rise.

Finally, the elected representative of the commune of Patte D’oie and member of the Alsar movement, analyzes the results of the other candidates and discusses the implications of their electoral performances, concluding with a reflection on political changes and the future of Senegal after these tumultuous elections.
