Xavier Fortinon, president of the Department, insists on the need to go beyond areas of activity, which only concentrate 4 to 5% of companies. “We have to work on the remaining 95%”he says.
Each year, the Department devotes between 2 and 3 million euros to corporate real estate to support projects in business zones, in the wider area or in the town center. This commitment also includes support for the creation of new initiatives, in particular via BGE Landes TecGecoop and springboard operations intended for populations far from employment. Xavier Fortinon also highlights the growing importance of the social and solidarity economy (ESS), a “key sector for economic development and territorial coverage”.
Finally, he recalls that if the Landes have been able to resist the phenomenon of deindustrialization and maintain industrial employment, “it’s thanks to the investment of entrepreneurs in our territory”he concludes.
Consultation, anticipation and control of land resources are at the heart of the solutions to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Between optimization, the fight against speculation and the creation of suitable spaces despite the constraints of ZAN (Zero Net Artificialization), there is no shortage of avenues for building sustainable and balanced economic development.
