Roadworks and major diversions around the station and the Coliseum in Chartres

From Monday, July 8, the Danièle-Casanova bridge will only be accessible in the Mainvilliers-Chartres direction. Diversions will be put in place around the Coliseum and the train station.

This work should have started on Monday, July 1st. However, due to an incident that occurred on May 27th with the discovery of a cavity between the Danièle-Casanova bridge and the Le Colisée cultural and sports complex. It was a well, but this delayed the scheduled work.

As part of the construction site of the station hub, work will be carried out on the bridge and around it, starting this Monday. This will require a ban on buses and light vehicles in the Chartres-Mainvilliers direction. They will only be able to use it in the opposite direction: Mainvilliers-Chartres.

Chartres train station: the well discovered under the roadway filled in and the diversion lifted on the Casanova bridge

To bypass the work zone, diversions are being set up around the train station and the Colisée. To get to Mainvilliers from Chartres, light vehicles and buses will have to take the streets Nicole, Félibien, du Faubourg-Saint-Jean and a new bypass above the Colisée car park, named “Jean Rigole” by the Chartres municipality. A sidewalk for pedestrians will remain accessible during the work. It will last until August.

Work also in August

Underground works will also be carried out from July 8 to 12, at the bottom of Nicole Street. It will be partially closed between Casanova Street and the railway crossing. This same type of work will be carried out in front of Saint-Jean School starting July 15, for a few days. As a result, part of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Jean will be closed at this level, with a diversion onto “Jean Rigole” Street. Philarète-Chasles Street, the asphalt having been done last Monday, will once again be accessible in both directions.

According to the schedule communicated before the incident of May 27, August, the month of the most fluid in terms of traffic, the Casanova bridge will no longer be accessible to vehicles and buses regardless of the direction of traffic. Only pedestrians will be able to use it on the south sidewalk, on the Compa side. They will also be able to access the multimodal interchange hub (PEM) via the station footbridge. The diversion for buses and light vehicles will remain the same as in July. It is in September that bus users, drivers and pedestrians will be able to use the Casanova bridge as usual.

Chartres train station construction site: what you need to know about the traffic plan

In a letter addressed to local residents, Franck Masselus, Chairman and CEO of C’Chartres Aménagement, stated that he was “well aware of the inconvenience caused. Our main concern remains to be able to carry out all of our work while minimizing the impact on all users as much as possible.”
