It appears UFC lightweight title contender Michael Chandler is still set to fight Conor McGregor.
Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler were finally set to face off at UFC 303 this weekend in Las Vegas. For Chandler, it’s a fight he’s been waiting a long time for. The two men have trained against each other in The Ultimate Fighter last summer, hoping to fight in late 2023. However, due to Conor McGregor’s film obligations « Road House »the date was postponed to this summer. However, UFC 303 did not go as planned. Two weeks before the fight, Conor McGregor withdrew due to a broken toe. While Michael Chandler was linked to a fight in short notice against Max Holloway, it didn’t work out.
Instead, Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka 2 was moved to be the main event of that UFC card. Michael Chandler still attended UFC 303, but as a fan. While Conor McGregor had announced his intention to return in August or September, Dana White opposed that plan. Additionally, Chandler himself seems to have changed his mind. In recent weeks, the lightweight has instead expressed interest in a “BMF” title fight with Max Holloway or a title fight with Makhachev.

Well, it looks like plans have changed again. Michael Chandler was the first to make his way to UFC 303, where he gave some updates on his fight against Conor McGregor. The former Bellator lightweight champion said that talks in Vegas went well and that a new fight date was in the works.

As of now, it is unclear when the Conor McGregor-Michael Chandler fight could take place. While both stars are keen to fight later in the year, it is unclear whether they would fit into the UFC’s schedule. Additionally, as previously reported, Dana White ruled out the possibility of the Irishman fighting in August, September or October earlier this week.
