Far left or far right? The candidate of La France Insoumise with more than 47% or that of the National Rally with more than 21%? This Monday morning, voters in the second constituency of the North are surprised by such a big gap and the breakthrough of protest votes. “For me, it’s a disaster, it makes you cry. Maybe there’s too much poverty in France and people hope for something else. But it’s a shame… It’s terrible, I’m sad.”says a man interviewed in the video at the top of this article. A third candidate is proposing a moderate left alternative, but it is not yet known whether she will continue in the second round.
“I don’t know how we’re going to do it.”
For Rola, a shopkeeper, the choice looks very difficult on Sunday morning. “As a trader, everything will increase, everything will follow, I don’t know how we will do it”she explains to TF1. Traditionally, this constituency has always been won by the PS since 1973. In 2017, it is the outgoing LFI candidate who is leading the votes. This is a good thing for Moustafa to fight against the breakthrough of the RN. “At least it’s not the RN who took the lead in the constituency”he consoles himself.
The RN has completely wiped out the right here, with 21.89% of the vote. But none of its voters wanted to speak to us on camera, despite their deep satisfaction. For many voters in the second constituency of the North, there are five days of campaigning left before going to vote next Sunday… and making a decision.
