The hiker from Lyon, who had been missing since Saturday in the Belledonne massif in Isère, was found dead on Monday evening, July 1, according to the Grenoble prosecutor’s office. A major search operation, both on land and in the air, had been deployed for two days.

His disappearance had given rise to intense research “day and night” for two days, on foot and by helicopter, in Isère.

The hiker, who went missing in the Belledonne massif, was found dead on Monday evening, announced the Grenoble public prosecutor’s office. “He probably took the wrong route and fell to his death.”says Eric Vaillant, the public prosecutor.

This Monday morning, the Isère High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) launched an appeal for witnesses to try to find this hiker who had been missing in the Belledonne massif since the start of the weekend.

Aged around sixty, he left Lyon by BlaBlaCar on Saturday for Tencin, in Isère, at the foot of the Belledonne massif to go hiking, alone, without specifying his route.

On Saturday evening, worried about not seeing him return, his partner had alerted the emergency services. The PGHM then launched a search, on foot and by helicopter.

GPS readings indicated a last position on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the place called “Pichat”, above the castle of Monteynard. In total, around fifteen gendarmes took turns over two days to find the missing man.
