A duel at the top is announced for July 7 in the 7th constituency. Between Gaëtan Inard (LR-RN) in a favorable ballot and Christophe Bex (UG) following the withdrawal of E. Toutut-Picard (Ensemble).

Calculators and cell phones were in full swing on Sunday evening in the 19 polling stations of Muret, where 11,465 voters cast their ballots. After 8 p.m., the time had come to take stock. Driven, perhaps, by a massive turnout (77%), the historic surge of the National Rally in the villages of the 7th constituency also reached the town of Muret.

The mayor of Muret, André Mandement, checked the vote counts in the polling stations.

Here, Gaëtan Inard, the young LR-RN candidate is also in a favorable position ahead of Christophe Bex, the outgoing MP (Union de la Gauche). In Muret this Monday, around Christophe Bex we still want to believe. Will the withdrawal of former MP Elisabeth Toutut-Picard play in the second round in favor of the Republican Front?
“Next Sunday, I invite the voters who have placed their trust in me to think carefully about the model of society they want for themselves and their children and to prioritize the choice that is most likely to protect republican and European values,” Elisabeth Toutut-Picard said on Sunday. For his part, Christophe Bex, running under the Nupes banner in 2022, came out on top in this constituency in the first round of the legislative elections, with 30.68% of the vote ahead of the outgoing MP at the time, Elisabeth Toutut-Picard (26.53%). On Monday, he praised “the responsibility of Elisabeth Toutut-Picard, a candidate for the presidential camp in my constituency who chose to withdraw to “protect republican values”. Sébastien Vincini, president of the departmental council, did the same for his part, indicating that “Sunday, July 7, no vote should be missing for Christophe Bex in the 7th constituency”.

André Mandement: “There are still 35% of people who did not vote and who are mostly in working-class neighborhoods”

“In Muret, this Sunday during the first round, there was still a relatively high abstention rate, with polling stations at 54.55% of votes, even if overall we are at 66.79% of registered voters. For me this means above all that there are 35% of people who did not vote and who are mostly in working-class neighborhoods. The media’s bombardment with fear of the extremes led to a stronger vote for E. Toutut Picard (Ensemble). It is obvious in Muret! In the rather well-off, residential neighborhoods, the Ensemble candidate had a very big success that I did not imagine. These are voters who do not want Bardella as Prime Minister!”, he concludes.
