Quimperlé-Concarneau constituency: Thomas Le Bon asks Sébastien Miossec to withdraw

New thunderbolt the day after the results of the first round of the legislative elections, in the 8th constituency of Finistère Quimperlé-Concarneau. This Monday, July 1, 2024, the representative of the New Popular Front Thomas Le Bon called, in a press release, Sébastien Miossec to also withdraw his candidacy. The first, although qualified for the second round in a four-way race (with 18.12% of the vote) had announced, the day before, his withdrawal to block the National Rally and the far right. Sébastien Miossec had come third in the ballot (22.17%). “All the partner parties of the agreement have established a clear principle: the candidate who came third must withdraw his candidacy. Consequently, I oppose any electoral calculation. The precautionary principle is essential. We must show responsibility. A single candidate must gather the votes of the Republican camp in the second round. Playing the game of a three-way race is playing with fire. “The time has come not to take risks but to avoid the worst,” writes Thomas Le Bon.

“The division on the left must end”

The latter also deplores the disunity of the left in the 8th constituency, “the only one in Brittany not to have been the subject of a single candidate”, he regrets. “The dissident candidacy of Sébastien Miossec, supported by the local section of the Socialist Party, has dealt a severe blow to the hopes placed in the union. It has in fact disqualified the left from the second round. This is no longer possible and we will have to learn lessons from it. To put it clearly, in the future, the division on the left must cease”.

It now remains to be seen what Sébastien Miossec’s position will be. Will he remain in a three-way race alongside Erwan Balanant and Christian Perez, or will he also decide to disengage in order to thwart the RN? He should clarify his position very quickly.
