Marion Lush Obituary
“Never a dull moment,” is how my Mom described her long life that took her from her birth place in Kirkland Lake in the Temiskaming Shores to her final home in Owen Sound. She was born to a colourful Walton clan of hunters, fishermen, amateur musicians and business owners. As a young girl, she moved to Hamilton when her father “Duke” died. There she formed life long friends with her very own “Barton Street gang”, the late Jean Harrison (nee Livingstone), Dee Keonach and the McElcheran girls. They all set off to Delta high, but Mom left at 16 to become a Bell operator. She loved music and listened to anything from opera to folk, hopping on a bus to see Ian and Sylvia at the first Mariposa festival in 1961. She would talk about foreign policy and history in one breath and the latest episode of the Y&R in the next. She was comfortable in both the city (Hamilton, Burlington, Lethbridge) and the country—farms in St. George, Carlisle, and Owen Sound, the latter where she spent 35 years until the farm outside of Jackson was sold. She loved animals, especially cats, and our houses were often filled with more cats than people. She was passionate about non-profits and served as a volunteer coordinator at the Owen Sound YMCA from 1977 to 1983 and in Lethbridge from 1984-1988. She was, above all, a strong person, and faced her son’s death with stalwart courage that later turned to renewed hope and gratitude when her grandson, Jack, was born shortly after. She was a true friend to many and could sit for hours at the kitchen table engaged in a good conversation and telling jokes. She has left us with many “Marion-isms” that will keep us laughing for years to come. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Laura and Barb, her grandson, Jack, her brother Trevor Chedgey and her nieces Val Lush, Lee Ann, Andrea Buzza and Sara Chedgey, her grand nieces, Carter and Reese and her nephew, John Lush as well as her precious cat, “Queenie.” She is predeceased by her husband, Barry (December 26, 2016) and her son, Curt (October 21, 2002).
Visitation will be held at Brian Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6th with a service at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Amnesty International or your favourite charity would be appreciated.
