It's a season without a notable departure of a leading athlete for the Charente-Maritime athletics clubs. And that’s already a satisfaction in itself. The two national medalists from last season, the Royannais Baptiste Ruske, 3rd in France cadets over 800 meters, and the Saintais Raphaël Le Glas, French hopeful indoor pole vault champion, have taken back a license in their respective club, who evolve within the Athlétisme Sud 17 agreement.
On November 16, in Nantes, the first city beat his personal best in the 800 m indoors, bringing it to 1 min 55 s 46. It's anecdotal but it's the best French performance at the start of the junior season. Le Glas still trains in Talence and will be looking to defend his national title this winter. Still in Saintes, the only Charentais-Maritime qualified for the French Elite championships last summer, Mathys Pinson, 9th in the hammer throw, has not hung up his machine. It's quite the opposite since the US Saintes Athletics coach has a brand new cage at the Yvon-Chevalier complex where the next generation is growing and looks promising with the cadet Iliana Tomaszewski, 12th French junior at Pointes d 'Gold and reach in the 200m and the triple jump.
Aunis in front of Aigrefeuille
Behind the wave of its half-marathon – which, all races combined, will bring together more than 4,000 runners in March – Aunis Athlétisme La Rochelle Aytré has regained first place among the department's clubs, with 430 licensees, at 'US Aigrefeuille (385). Having left for Toulouse for her studies, the sprinter Agathe Capon, several times national semi-finalist, kept her license at Aunis, where we also highlight the very strong start to the season of Julien Guinandie, with 30 min 53 s on 10 kilometers in Bordeaux at the beginning of November and 1 h 07 min 37 s in the half marathon in Boulogne-Billancourt, on November 17.
Aunis Athletics is also entering the cross-country season with great strength. Loup Desmier (hopeful), Romane Jaulin (Elite women) but above all a great group of cadets who will play a team qualification for the French cross championships which will be held in Challans (Vendée), at the beginning of March 2025.
