Three. That’s the number of triangular in the Bas-Rhin which were formed following the first round of the 2024 legislative elections.

In this context, which elected officials will choose to withdraw in the second round in order to block the National Rally (RN), which has made a historic breakthrough in the department? We take stock.

NFP candidate withdraws in the 4th constituency of Bas-Rhin

With our colleagues from France 3Raphaële Krattinger, NFP candidate who came third in the 4th constituency of Bas-Rhin, announced her intention not to continue in the second round in order to barrage au RNwho came first in the same constituency. She also called for a vote for the outgoing MP Françoise Buffet (Ensemble!), who came second.

In doing so, she is applying the instructions given by the leader of La France Insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, on the evening of the first round, namely to withdraw when the RN came out on top in a constituency and the NFP third.

No further cancellations planned

For the other two triangular races, those which formed in the 2nd constituency and the 3rd constituency, no withdrawal is planned.

As a reminder, here are the scores obtained in these two constituencies in the first round:

  • 2nd constituency: Emmanuel Fernandes, outgoing MP (Union of the Left): 43.91% / Rebecca Breitman (Together!): 22.56% / Virginie Joron (National Rally): 21.22%.
  • 3rd constituency: Thierry Sother (Union of the Left): 37.94% / Bruno Studer, outgoing MP (Together!): 28.99% / Stéphanie Dô (National Rally): 23.1%.

“I want to offer a third way to voters who do not want to choose between the RN and LFI,” declares Rebecca Breitman

As for the 2nd constituency, neither Rebecca Breitman (Ensemble!) nor Virginie Joron (Rassemblement national) plan to withdraw in the second round. “I want to continue to be able to give a 3rd way to voters who do not want to choose between the RN and LFI”, justifies the first contacted by us, who is pleased to have “thwarted the prediction that predicted a LFI-RN ​​duel in this constituency”.

Virginie Joron confirmed on Facebook that she had submitted her candidacy for the second round.

In the 3rd constituency, “there is no RN risk”, underlines Bruno Studer

Finally, regarding the 3rd constituency, Bruno Studer (Ensemble!), contacted by - Strasbourgalso confirms that he will remain in the second round.

“There is no risk that the RN will win,” he emphasizes.

As for Stéphanie Dô (RN), she declares to- Strasbourg : “I fully intend to stay in the second round, partly out of respect for the voters who turned out and voted for me. […] and, on the other hand, because we absolutely must remain in power to have every chance of obtaining an absolute majority because we are the only ones to embody the Republic in the face of the chaos of the New Popular Front and the policies of Emmanuel Macron.”
