Shooting at a wedding in Thionville: one seriously injured person died this Monday, two dead in total

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, at around 1:00 a.m., four people attending a wedding reception were shot. Two of them died from their injuries.

“For two other victims, initially hospitalized in a state of absolute emergency, the prognosis is no longer life-threatening,” said Vincent Légaut, deputy prosecutor in Nancy, in a press release.

Two other people also suffered minor injuries, in particular from shards of glass, indicated the Interregional Specialised Jurisdiction (Jirs) of Nancy, which opened an investigation for “murder by an organised gang and attempted murder by an organised gang”.

A hundred guests present

The incident took place at the Eden Palace, a reception hall specializing in weddings in a commercial area of Thionville. Around a hundred guests were present, who came, according to Thionville Mayor Pierre Cuny, from the Metz metropolitan area.

“Three hooded men, dressed in black, heavily armed, appeared in front of the entrance to the room and fired at people who were outside,” the court explained on Sunday, referring to “several dozen rounds of ammunition” fired.

Three attackers arrived in a 4×4, “probably a BMW,” according to a police source. They fled before help arrived.

“Very clearly, we are moving towards a settling of scores against a backdrop of drug trafficking,” a source said on Sunday. “The wedding was not targeted as such, it was people who were at the wedding.”
